Sheikh Khalid Saif Amir
A few hours ago, he arrived in the desert. Visiting the first clan that supports him. After a warm welcome, the chief of the clan offered him a simple but nutritious meal. Outside, and still hot. The chief and the Sheikh went to the university together and became good friends at that time.
After the meal, they were sitting around a campfire. Not burning yet. There was enough light, and the desert hadn’t cooled down. The temperature was becoming nice. It started to cool down a bit compared to the hot day. Still warm. During the hot desert days, there were no animals to be heard. But now some insects were waking up and buzzing around. Making their specific sound.

A Ride Through the Desert, Still Hot
After talking business, they decided to take a ride on their camels. In the desert, camels are much more useful than horses. Better equipped for the heat. The animals can go a long time without drinking water. As long as they drank enough before going on tour. When a sandstorm is coming up unexpectedly, the animals are lying down and can protect you against the sand.
They were riding relaxed on the camels. A few guards, equipped with traditional weapons, were behind them. Here in the desert it was normally safe, and people from different clans tried to help each other where possible in this hostile environment. Yes, there were fights now and then, but usually with traditional weapons and nothing serious.
He had difficulties keeping his mind with the conversation. Eager to find out if Aksar would be able to find her. To find his fiancée.
While they were riding there relaxed, it seemed there was something or someone far away. Coming from the direction of the only building on the edge of the desert. Not a great establishment to visit. It didn’t have a good name. And why would someone walk from there into the desert?
There were rumours that some young women were kidnapped and held in captivity somewhere in that area. But although it had been researched, no confirmation about this was found. But maybe, he thought, maybe he should ask Aksar to investigate this also. He made a mental note of it.
Slowly they drove further. Talking about important and less important topics. It is good to be back, slipped it through his mind. While driving further, it became clear it was a human being who was stumbling towards them. It wasn’t clear yet if it was a woman or a man.
A Tiny Figure in the Hot Desert
“Do you see that?” he asked the leader of the clan. “Yes, I do. Who will be so careless and go walk into the desert? It might be a criminal on the run. Let’s be careful when we approach”. They warned their guards to be on their guard, pointing to the figure that was heading towards them.
When they came nearer, they finally could see that it was a woman. She seemed barefoot. Dressed in a very dirty and dusty traditional Tuareg dress. Although, she wasn’t wearing a veil, though. And she had a bag over her shoulder. The bare parts of her body, face & parts of her arms and legs, were full of blisters.
This cannot be good, they said to each other as they picked up their pace a bit. Khalid got a strange feeling when he looked again at the woman who stumbled. She kept herself from falling into the hot sand with her hand. And tried to keep walking. There was something familiar about her. And he couldn’t figure out what it was.
To his companions, he said that they weren’t allowed to mention that he was the Sheik, the ruler of Saharaya. Because they didn’t know who she was, and she might be a danger. Coming from the side of the infamous establishment where dangerous people resided.
They fully understand and decided to talk about him with his nickname Amenokal. Amenokal means highest leader in Tuareg. A language usually not known by foreigners. Therefore, this nickname was perfect. Seems to be a name for a male, while it was respectful towards the Sheik. In the past he had used this name also when he visited incognito other countries. He even flew economic class in a plane, these times.
He Found Her, Under the Hot Desert Sun
When he was nearby the woman, he jumped off his camel. Just in time to catch the stumbling woman. Holey Moley, he thought… It is Her! Thabita. She didn’t know who he was, though. And that was a secret he wanted to keep.

After taken her in his arms, he hurried back to his camel, with her in his arms. And as quickly as possible, they hurried back to the camp. There, warned by one of the guards, the women of the camp were waiting for the people to arrive. Luckily, it wasn’t that hot any more. Still warm, not hot.
The women are busy in the settlement. Arranging the tent where, when needed, sick women are taken care off. One of the woman was a clinical doctor and there were also a few nurses in the group. The woman is taken to the hospital tent. And she drinks some water and eats a little porridge.
After that, the female doctor is doing research. The doctor took the medical history. First by asking questions. Questions about her name, if she knows the day and date. How long she already was wandering through the desert. Where she came from in this heat. The woman could not answer any of the questions. It seems that dehydration took its toll on her memory.

Memory Loss?
The doctor walked up to Khalid. “Amenokal”, she said. “The woman is resting. We gave her a little water and some porridge. After that, I tried to take her medical history. We have a problem, though. It seems that the woman cannot remember her name. Nor where she came from, what she is doing in the desert etc. Nothing at all”.
Staying With The Tribe
The following days Thabita, still unaware of her name and without any other memory, healed bit by bit. All her blisters, although some of them were infected, healed very well. She still felt weak and needed to rest often. Amenokal, Khalid, had several talks with her. First, due to her weakness, short. But they became very fast, intense and long. And when they accidentally touch each other, sparkles were hitting his arm. As if he burned himself. And, due to her reaction, he had the idea she felt the same.
This is exactly what I thought would happen when I first saw her, he thought. Khalid had felt an immediate, strong attraction to the women. He had seen a photo from her on a Social Media platform from his youngest sister. Jacky, best friend of Thabita befriended his youngest sister without knowing that she was from royal heritage. This was years ago. But via Social Media they kept in contact.
When Thalia had seen a photo of Thabita on a post of Jacky, she asked her brother if he also found that Thabita looked like a woman on one of the paintings in their main palace in Saharaya. The painting of the wife of the killed man hundreds of years ago. When he first watched the photo, he had felt a strange sensation. As if someone whispered to him, “This is her, this is your soulmate. Go find her”.
Together with her, it was decided that she would stay with this clan. It was her proposal. Letting him know she wanted to learn more about the people who helped her. Doing something for them too. He had explained to her that he still had business to do with several other tribes in the desert. And that he would come and pick her up before he went back to the city. To get her checked in a hospital with a neurologist when her memory didn’t come back yet.
