Thabita
Running in this heat was impossible. But as fast as possible, Thabita walked to the direction the woman had told her. Luckily, she had drank the tea, although she became thirsty again. Her escape must succeed!
She went to the left as she was told to do. And indeed she saw the end of the castle building on the same side. Straight ahead, she thought. As much and as long as possible straight ahead. Hopefully to freedom. Without struggling too much. Although she was aware of the fact that in this harsh environment, it probably would be a long struggle to stay alive. But everything better than staying with those 2 men.
Still not 100% sure if she was kidnapped, but the story told by her rescuer made it more sure that this was more than possible.
Thabita wondered if someone missed her. She blamed herself that she hadn’t told anyone that she would leave for Saharaya. Except her best friend. And she was sworn to secrecy. For one time, she hoped that her Jacky would not be able to keep her mouth shut, like usually when they shared a secret.
Stumbling further, she noticed the heat. Hear bare arms and legs, the part under her 6/7 trousers, are heating up. Starting to blister. When she goes further and further away from her kidnappers, she sees a city far away. Not clear, though. Is it real? Stumbling further, she almost falls. Then she sees the 3 dots she saw moving towards her. The beautiful building is gone, though.

A Fata Morgana. When the truth dawned on her, she almost started to cry. It was just a Fata Morgana. No desert city in front of her. But, when she looked up, she saw that the figures kept coming towards her. Exhausted, she took a few steps, stumbling again. The only thing she wanted was to lie down. The sand was hot, but she was so tired. Almost no energy left.
Wondering now if she’d not better, had stayed with her kidnappers. At least she would be safe and healthy, wouldn’t she? It was hardly possible for her to walk further. She took the last bite of her protein bar. The problem with eating, she thought, is that you get more thirst than before. And the last time she drank was the tea in the store from her rescuer.
With this thought, she felt herself slipping away and falling unconscious.
